Wonders the say shall never cease to exist...............................................................................................
A young man has reportedly committed suicide by hanging after losing a N22,000 sports bet.
The victim identified simply as Uchenna, is reported to have hung himself in his room along Abak road in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
Uchenna
was described as a perpetual sports gambler and had collected his boss'
money for the bet in hopes of replacing it after his big win, Daily Post reports.
The deceased's roommate, Ifiok, revealed that Uchenna had been bemoaning his loss, working himself into a frenzy over it.
Ifiok said,
“I went out to buy something from Plaza (the city centre) and on getting back, I found that everywhere was locked.
“I
knew Uchenna hadn’t gone out and I wondered what must have made him
lock up himself. I tried to open the door for several minutes without
success until I had to force it open.
The victim identified as Fidel Nikitin,
27, had hoped to win the £2,300 gamble, allowing him to clear his debts
but unfortunately, Portugal had beat their host nation in the finals
which took place on Sunday, 10, 2016.
Daily Record
reports that Nikitin who was a mobile phone salesman, from Izhevsk,
Russia, reportedly left a message on his social media account following
the 1-0 defeat, writing:
"Thank you and forgive me."
The
police reveal that Nikitin had walked onto the Ludzya-Izhevsk railway
track, holding his ground without a flinch even after the train sounded a
warning.
The driver of train said that he had no time to stop after spotting the deceased on the rail tracks.
Nikitin's
relatives disclosed that he had been deeply shocked by France's loss to
Portugal, adding that he had taken out a series of loans which he had
been unable to pay, hence the reason for the bet.
May his soul rest in peace.
