Venezuela National Anthem Played For Nigeria Olympic Football Team Because They Couldn’t Find Nigeria’s National Anthem CD [VIDEO] nigerianewsheadlines.com
FANS of the Nigerian football team had their noses put
out of joint — and their ears offended — after Rio Olympic Games
organisers played the wrong national anthem ahead of their opening match against Japan.
But what everyone agrees on is that the Super Eagles had to look serious and emotional to a tune they had never heard before.
The confusion may have been compounded due to the late arrival at the ground of the Nigeria team, though you can’t imagine they would have had any problems locating, say, a bootleg copy of the Star Spangled Banner if it had been needed. They couldn’t find Nigeria National Anthem CD because the team got there late, so they played Venezuela’s #NGR https://t.co/CuQCdb7q42— flocfc (@badtacklez) August 5, 2016
Nigeria had its trip to the Games delayed by a mix-up at an airport in the US, forcing the players to make a last-minute flight from Atlanta to Brazil just hours before their opening match.
The team boarded a Delta Air Lines jet from Atlanta on Thursday morning and arrived in the jungle city of Manaus about six hours before its game against Japan.
The team’s spokesman posted a picture on Twitter of the team boarding the plane with the message “here we go” and later displayed images of members going through immigration and collecting luggage.
what am I even watching 10 mins and its 2-1 to Nigeria…they even played the wrong anthem as well. so done with this Olympics already— Samson Séyí Famusan (@SamsonSeyiF) August 5, 2016
Please whose National anthem was that? Guess its the new national anthem for the United State of Nigeria. #Rio2016 #Olympics— Kc Emmanuels (@k_lechy) August 5, 2016
Jinadu said the problem stemmed from poor planning and co-ordination on the part of the Nigerian team in leaving Atlanta, where it has been training to prepare for the Games.
He said the team had assumed it could simply buy plane tickets to Rio at the last minute – just like Nigerians do in their home country to book travel.
What, if any, impact the musical cock-up had on the players is hard to decipher, though the match itself got off to a blistering opening, the two sides sharing four goals in a little over 10 minutes from kick off.

After the wrong Nigerian National anthem was played, Nigerians took to twitter to express their disappointment at the organizers of the 2016 Rio Olympics.
