Robbers Raid CBN Bullion Vans, Kill 2 Policemen nairaland.com

Daily Sun reports that hell was let loose yesterday when dare devil armed robbers ambushed a convoy of bullion vans belonging to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and killed two policemen in the process at Hawan Kibo, along the Jos-Abuja road, in Plateau state,
Daily Sun gathered that the bullion vans and their armed mobile police escorts had left Jos yesterday morning enroute Abuja.

Shortly after leaving a military check point, along Hawan Kibo, around 8:30, the robbers, who were said to be in military uniforms, emerged from a bush and attacked a patrol team belonging to the Plateau State security outfit, “Operation Rainbow”, attached to Riyom local government, and killed a mobile policeman on the spot.

Sources said it was at this point that the CBN convoy ran into the robbers who opened fire on it immediately.

“The armed robbers engaged the escort in a deadly shootout, during which they killed another mobile policeman.

The mobile policeman was identified as Sgt. Anthony Jawa, from Mobile Police Squad (MOPOL) 8, Jos.

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Tyopev Terna, who confirmed the incident. but said he was yet to receive the full report from the Riyom Divisional Police station at the time.
He explained that some policemen were killed, but did not know the number.

As of the time of this report, the CBN bullion vans and escort were at the Federal Road Safety office in Riyom.

Expressing concern over the state of insecurity in the country, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae said, “it is very unfortunate that there is insecurity everywhere.

“If you look at what the military said sometime ago over the insurgency, I mean the Boko Haram; they said some of them have ran away through the Sambisa Forest or so.

“I’m not surprised that this type of thing is happening because those who escaped may be trying to find a way to survive. I hope the security forces will find a way to quickly end this. And every Nigerians should be more security conscious,” he added.
